Varitek enjoyed a great day at the plate. He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the 3rd inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 4th of the season) in the 9th inning. Annadale finished with 12 hits in the victory. Clemens(1-0) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. The right-handed Clemens had his no-hit bid broken up by Alex Cora who singled with nobody out in the 7th inning. Gary Knotts(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He served up 3 gopher balls in 4 and 2/3 innings. 'He had his 'A' game today,' Annadale's manager said of Clemens. 'Very impressive performance.'
